The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing and hope, given by Christ for
those who are seriously ill, elderly, or preparing for surgery (James 5:14–15).
During the celebration, a priest anoints the person’s forehead and hands with
blessed oil while praying for God’s grace. Through this sacrament, Christ offers
strength, peace, courage, and comfort. It also brings forgiveness of sins when
Confession is not possible and, if it is God’s will, may even bring physical healing.
Above all, the Anointing of the Sick reminds us that we are never alone. Christ is with
us in our suffering and prepares us with hope for eternal life.
